Aboriginal Art & Textiles in Broome
Indigenous-made textiles and homewares, printed by women artists, lead the offering at this Broome shop run by Nagula Jarndu, a not-for-profit Yawuru women's arts centre. Stock runs from silk and linen fabrics, sold by the metre or in precut lengths, to soap, candles, tote bags, cushion covers and corduroy bucket hats, with block and screen-printed designs drawn from the local landscape. Shoppers describe the colours and prints as evoking "country and dreaming," and the studio lets visitors meet artists and watch them work.
